Happy Mother’s Day!!
One of the most important holidays in May is Mother’s Day! Here is a little bit of history:
People have celebrated Mother’s Day since the beginning of time. Although it was not called “Mother’s Day,” even ancient Romans and Greeks held festivals to celebrate mothers. In the United States, it started in the 19th century with Ann Reeve Jarvis, who started a club to help other local women. There were many other women who came after Jarvis who helped promote women and their roles in society. The official Mother’s Day as a holiday came about thanks to Anna Jarvis to honor her mother, Ann Reeve Jarvis, and all other mothers. Mother’s Day in the US is always celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May. Celebrate Mother’s Day (and review some grammar!) with your children by completing the Mother’s Day Mad Lib. Happy Mother’s Day!
